ICYMI: Ireland were beaten 69-0 by England in the Six Nations on Sunday

IRELAND WERE humbled against England on Sunday in the latest installment of the Tiktok Six Nations this weekend.

Greg McWilliam's side lost 69-0 to England's Red Roses at Leicester's Welford Road in a miserable afternoon for Ireland.

England ran in nine second-half tries, while Ireland lost Eimear Considine to a nasty injury and on 68 minutes Sene Naoupu saw red after a head clash with one of England's player's

Hooker Lark Davies (two), tighthead Sarah Bern, back-row Marlie Packer, wing Lydia Thompson (two), back-row Poppy Cleall (two), prop Hannah Botterman and replacement back Ellie Kildunne (two) scored England's tries in the mauling

This was Ireland's third defeat of the campaign, but a lot can be put down to Ireland losing several players to the  HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Canada, which starts this month.

Eight members of the match-day squad that took part in the win against Italy over a week ago were unavailable on Sunday.

McWilliam's had to put out a side without Beibhinn Parsons, Lucy Mulhall, Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe, Stacey Flood, Eve Higgins,Brittany Hogan, Anna McGann, Sam Monaghan, and Aoife Wafer due to the tournament clash.

Irish captain Nichola Fryday admitted there is a difference between England being professional and the Ireland's players being amateurs.

Ireland's players will now head back to work and college and prepare for the Scotland game next week, while England will train for their Grand Slam decider against France next week.

They’re just clinical in everything they do and have that advantage from training all week and are able to execute their systems efficiently and clinically and they get the opportunity to do that all during the week," said the Ireland captain.

"It’s just a step up they’ve got and we’ll continue to strive to get there as well.

"I think [the difference is] probably their power game, their set-piece.

"It's a real weapon that they have. We tried different ways of defusing it but it was just world-class and that's what we need to strive to get better at and be able to handle that kind of pressure.

Fryday also admitted the England are a cut above everyone else

"This year’s Six Nations has got tougher and tougher and England are that step above everyone else.

"At the same time it’s just rugby, if you go out and make your tackles and you chop low and you get one high and if you implement that system and process it makes your defense simple and easy and that’s what we did in the first half."

Ireland will play Scotland next Saturday at the Kingspan Stadium in their final game.
