Ian Machado Garry in no rush for title shot

UFC sensation Ian Machado Garry has asserted that he is in no rush to secure a future title shot, as he gears up for his upcoming fight against Neil Magny at UFC 292 this weekend.

The Irish welterweight currently boasts an unbeaten record of 12-0 and has his sights set on breaking into the top 10 of the welterweight division.

Hailing from Dublin, Garry has drawn comparisons to former two-time weight champion Conor McGregor and is touted as the rising star from Ireland in the UFC.

Despite his growing reputation and fervent desire to emulate his compatriot's championship success, the 25-year-old fighter has openly admitted to taking a deliberate and measured approach when it comes to pursuing championship belts in the sport. His emphasis is currently on crafting a brand, honing his skill set, and rallying a legion of supporters before even contemplating a world title fight.

In his words, "I believe that I'll earn a title shot when I truly deserve it. Rushing is not my intention. At 25 years of age, with my 26th birthday approaching in November," he told Sporting Post, "I feel no urgency to claim a world title prematurely. My focus is on developing my craft, refining my skills, building a cohesive team, strengthening family bonds, and cultivating a loyal following. I'm striving to establish a comprehensive brand, and I aim to have all the pieces in place by the time I step into the octagon for a world title bout."

As Garry prepares to face off against the seasoned octagon veteran Neil Magny, who stepped in on short notice to replace the injured Geoff Neal, he anticipates a different set of challenges awaiting him in Boston this weekend. While his gaze isn't solely fixed on a title fight, Garry is strategically eyeing competitors ranked 10th to 5th in the Welterweight division.

With a well-defined game plan, Garry added, "I've strategically planned my path. My immediate goal is to conquer Neil Magny on Saturday night. Following that, my aim is to overcome two opponents ranked between #10 and #5. Subsequently, I aspire to best two individuals within the top five ranks. For me, attaining a title shot requires a sequence of four victories. I've observed numerous prospects rush into title fights prematurely, only to falter and experience setbacks."

"I'm focused on sustainable growth rather than impulsive leaps. This sport is replete with instances of fighters rushing into the top ten, only to face a downward spiral after a title fight loss. I am steadfast in constructing a solid foundation that guarantees success at every juncture."

The event will take place August 19 at TD Garden with the main card at 10pm ET/7pm PT on ESPN+ PPV.
