Ulster's Iain Henderson has claimed he is "delighted" to have signed a new deal with Ulster, his native province.
The Ulster captain signed a two-year deal that will keep him playing in a white jersey until at least 2027.
The 32-year-old forward has won over 150 caps for Ulster since making his debut in April 2012. He has also featured 80 times for Ireland and been a member of two British and Irish Lions squads in 2017 and 2021.
Commenting on his new deal this week, Henderson said he was thrilled with the extension and excited about what the future holds for Ulster.
“I’m delighted to sign with Ulster Rugby for another two years and feel energised about leading this group, which can keep growing in the months to come. We are building a team with a new core of players coming through the ranks, and I believe there is the talent and experience to drive us forward. As a proud Ulsterman, I love playing for the club, and I’m excited for us going forward," said Henderson on the Ulster website.
This news comes in the same week that his Ireland and Ulster teammate Rob Herring also extended his tenure with the province.
Herring signed a one-year contract extension with Ulster, keeping him at the province until the end of the 2026 season. Herring is Ulster’s most-capped player, with 230 appearances, and has earned over 40 caps for Ireland.
Speaking after signing his new contract, the Ireland forward expressed his delight and optimism for the future of the Ulster squad, just as Henderson did.
“I’m delighted to sign with the club for another year. Belfast feels like home to me now, and it’s always an honour to wear the jersey. I’m enjoying my role as one of the experienced players in an exciting young squad. I look forward to competing on the pitch but also helping the next generation come through. There’s a lot of excitement around the squad at the moment, and hopefully, plenty more special days ahead.”
Ulster’s next game is against Ireland on Friday, November 29.
