Hartson wants Celtic to sign Adam Idah

John Hartson has asked his old club, Celtic, to sign Ireland's Adam Idah on a permanent deal.

When he was signed, there were questions over Idah's arrival at Celtic, with former players like Chris Sutton questioning the signing.

However, Idah has become a fan favourite for Celtic since arriving on loan from Norwich City. Idah has scored seven goals in 10 games since arriving in Glasgow, and this also includes strikes against rival Rangers.

Hartson knows that strikers are hard to find, and he believes that the chance to sign Idah is one that his former side can't afford to pass on.

“Strikers are hard to find,” Hartson said this week. “The fee to get him now will have shot up because he’s been successful at the club. But he’s scored big, important goals for Celtic this season.

“When he first came in, you got the feeling some of the fans were a bit nonplussed. They looked at him playing for Norwich, maybe not getting a game every week, and it was a loan signing. But he has done well. He’s big and powerful; he can run in behind, and he knows how to finish.”

Harston also thinks that Celtic potentially getting the Ireland striker for a small fee could also be smart business. The Welshman knows it can be a gamble, but he already sees the talent Idah has and has shown in Glasgow.

“If Celtic can get him for around the £4m or £5m mark, it would be a great bit of business. He could be a great signing. It can be a gamble with new signings, but Celtic will know what they are going to get. They know he can make an impact in games; they know he can score big goals and handle the pressure.”

In other news relating to Ireland and Celtic, Liam Scales has signed a new deal at the club. The Ireland international will remain at the club until 2028.

Scales has made over 40 appearances for Celtic since joining from League of Ireland side Shamrock Rovers in 2021. The 25-year-old made his debut in a League Cup tie at home to Raith Rovers the following month after he signed.

Scales has had to bide his time at Celtic, and he was initially sent out on loan to Aberdeen before returning to the club last summer. Since then, he has become a mainstay in the Celtic team and has also featured three times for Ireland.

Celtic play Hearts tomorrow in the Scottish Premiership. That game kicks off at 3.
