Glynn will serve a one-match ban for his conduct

Former Galway star Johnny Glynn will serve a one-match ban for his conduct in the Galway SHC Round 3 clash between Ardrahan and Thurles Sarsfields

Both teams were heading towards half-time in the clash, but TG4 cameras caught footage of a melee between Glynn and Darren Morrissey.

The footage, seen on TV, showed Glynn, a 2017 All-Ireland SHC winner, holding down on the neck of Sarsfields' defender Morrissey for a period. The players were eventually separated and were shown yellow cards for the incident.

The matter appeared to be over, but the Galway CCC decided to take further action against Glynn, which he appealed to the Galway Hearings Committee. However, the appeal was thrown out, meaning the former Galway hurler will miss Ardrahan’s SHC preliminary quarter-final against Clarinbridge this Saturday, barring a successful appeal to the Galway Appeals Committee.

Galway's CCC opted to enforce Rule 7.3 (e) of the GAA’s Official Guide.

It states: “The Competitions Control Committee may make a written Request for Clarification from a Referee: (1) where there is any ambiguity in his Report.

"Or (2) where the Competitions Control Committee is in the course of investigating a possible Infraction not stated in his Report (even if the incident itself is disclosed).”

A number of people on social media took issue with the one-game ban for the 30-year-old, highlighting that he would have gotten more if it had not been on a GAA pitch.

"1 match ban. If that happened on the street, he would be done for assault. Now maybe not on an Irish street per se, as the system here is a joke, but if he did that on a street in New York, he would be doing some hard time." While another said, "Not a strong enough message. 12 weeks would be more appropriate."
