Rotherham United's Georgie Kelly has stated that Chiedozie Ogbene's move to Luton Town will be a 'great fit'. Ogbene recently completed his transfer to Luton from Rotherham and will officially join the club on July 1 after his Rotherham contract expires.
During his four seasons with Rotherham, Ogbene made 136 appearances and scored 36 goals. Kelly, who still plays for Rotherham, believes that Ogbene possesses all the necessary qualities to thrive in the Premier League next season. He described the new partnership as an ideal fit.
In an episode of The Football Family subscription podcast on The 42, Kelly said, "Chieo is a great lad, and I was delighted for him. He kept his move well under wraps, as we were always trying to find out where he was heading and what his plans were."
"But he didn't let anything slip because he had many options, as you would expect. It's a perfect move for him. I think it's a really, really good move for him," Kelly continued. "The club will suit him well, Luton will suit him well. He'll play and get significant minutes in the Premier League. I know he will shine."
"Considering they'll likely be the underdogs almost every week, regardless of the opponent, that will suit him. He'll thrive under pressure and have to lead the team out of difficult situations."
"I think it's a fantastic move. It couldn't have been a better fit, and I'm excited to see his progress."
Manager Rob Edwards also expressed his enthusiasm for Ogbene's arrival, stating that he is a "truly exciting addition to their squad" as they embark on their upcoming Premier League campaign. Luton had to wait 31 years to return to England's top league.
"He's a humble individual who comes from a great family background. He has worked extremely hard to reach this point and earn a chance in the Premier League. He should be immensely proud of himself, and we're delighted to provide him with this opportunity."
If given the opportunity, Ogbene's first match for Luton could be against Brighton on August 14, marking his debut in the Premier League.
