Gardai investigating Instagram image posted by Conor McGregor

GARDAI are investigating a photograph Ireland’s UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor posted on social media.

The picture the Dubliner uploaded to Instagram appears to show McGregor posing with what is thought to be a replica gun, whilst wearing a balaclava.

Captioned with the words ‘Put the fight game in the bag and step away from the vehicle’, the image has attracted over 2,000 comments and almost 130,000 ‘likes’ since being posted in the early hours of Thursday morning.

“We are investigating the circumstances under which the photo was taken. Gardai from Crumlin are investigating,” a spokeperson told the Irish Independent.

Meanwhile, UFC president Dana White has opened the door for McGregor to fight at two weights in 2016 as the 27-year-old hopes to become the first UFC fighter to hold belts simultaneously in multiple divisions.

“Conor has said that he would like to win the 155-pound belt and fight four times a year and defend both belts,” White told MMAFighting.com. “If anybody can do it, Conor McGregor can. This guy has pretty much done everything he said he would do.”

McGregor is now being touted for a bout with lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 197 on March 5.
