Galway GAA fan fighting for his life in hospital after being pulled from canal in Ireland

A YOUNG hurling fan is in critical condition in hospital after falling into a canal following Galway’s All-Ireland final triumph.

The 23-year-old got into difficulty in Dublin’s Grand Canal at Portobello Harbour in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He was pulled from the water and brought to St James’ Hospital where he is now fighting for his life.

The man had travelled to the Irish capital from Galway at the weekend to attend the big game at Croke Park.

He became separated from friends before the incident occurred.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses and are especially “anxious” to speak to a male and female who came to the aid of the man.

According to a source at the Irish Independent, the incident is not being treated as malicious.
