GAA President to send delegates to determine cause of London GAA HQ redevelopment delay

GAA PRESIDENT Aogán Ó Fearghail expressed his disappointment with the news that the re-development of the Irish TV Grounds in Ruislip will now not begin until May 2016 at the earliest, but re-affirmed Croke Park’s support for the project.

Speaking at the Frank Brady Memorial Cup in Birmingham at the weekend, An Uachtaran told The Irish Post: “It’s disappointing, anything that causes a project like this to be delayed is disquieting.

“We will be sending two senior delegates over to fully understand where the problem is, what the roadblocks are and how we can help to move it along. I look forward to hearing a full report from that, this remains a good project and still needs to happen.”

Ó Fearghail also re-affirmed Croke Park’s £1.3million financial commitment to the project: “There is no threat to the project, or to our commitment to the project. The most crucial aspects for the GAA community in London is when this will start and what it will ultimately cost. We do need a clear view on this but there are no alarm bells or difficulties.”

The £4.17m project was due to be completed in time for the 2016 Connacht Senior Championship game between London and Mayo. However the London County Board last week announced that construction would be delayed until May next year.
