WARWICKSHIRE’S GAA community could be set for a summer boost as Páirc na hÉireann is being lined up as a venue for a potential All-Ireland qualifier.
All-Ireland contenders Mayo play London in Ruislip in the Connacht Championship quarter-final on May 29 and whoever fails to advance to the semi-final will enter the qualifiers.
Should that be London and a home tie subsequently awarded, the qualifier fixture date would interfere with construction work planned for the development of Ruislip, which is planned to go ahead in early June.
Club delegates of London GAA took a vote at last week’s county board meeting on how they should proceed if the county enter the qualifiers and get another home draw.
Staging any such game at Páirc na hÉireann, which is Croke Park's Central Competitions Control Committee's (CCCC) designated alternative to Ruislip, rather than delaying the development any further was unanimously voted in favour of by the club delegates.
However, nothing will be officially confirmed until the result of the Connacht quarter-final has been determined.
Meanwhile, London GAA have reiterated their stance that the Mayo game will be an all ticket affair. All ticket enquiries should be directed to County Board Secretary Mark Gottsche on 07872600074 or [email protected].
