ALTHOUGH Republic of Ireland’s Euro 2016 hopes hang in the balance, French love for Irish fans shows no sign of letting up just yet.
From the national police pausing for photos and taking videos of the friendly invasion to renowned sports magazine L’Equipe dedicating a two-page spread on their heroics, Irish fans have gone down a storm with the hosts.
And the love has spread to a much smaller scale too, as evident in this message left by hotel staff at the Ibis Bordeaux Centre Meriadeck for those in green leaving the premises ahead of the long trip to Lille.
It reads: “Thank you Irish guys, you are the best! Good luck for the Euro [sic]. Have a good trip in your bus to Lille, enjoy! Come on you boys in green.”
Ireland play Italy at Stade Pierre Mauroy in the north of France on Wednesday, and nothing other than a win will do for Martin O’Neill’s men, otherwise the love affair between Irish fans and the French public will come to a premature end.
