It was announced earlier today that GAAGO will once again stream several GAA games on their platform for the 2024 GAA season. However, Cork hurling fans on social media feel they have been given a hard end to the broadcasting deal.
The controversial platform, which has a partnership with Irish broadcaster RTE, came under fire last year for selecting the games it selected on its platform. Many fans around the country complained about the service.
Because of the controversy last summer, sporting bodies and media firms, including RTÉ, appeared before the Oireachtas Media Committee to discuss the future of sports broadcasting and the controversy around the GAA streaming service.
This year, the broadcaster has claimed that it will show twenty-two games for the Sam Maguire Cup, nine for the Liam McCarthy Cup, and seven for the Tailteann Cup in 2024. However, three of Cork's four games in the Munster SHC will be behind the paywall and not feature on the free-to-air service provided by RTE.
Potential football game (should Cork beat Limerick) v Kerry also on GAAGO
Most Rebels supporters will not be happy I'd imagine https://t.co/HQskKji952

Just like the Kerry football fans felt aggrieved last year, this year Cork hurling fans will feel hard done by. Cork's clash in the Munster Championship against Waterford on April 21 in Waterford will be behind the paywall. The following game against Clare in Cork on April 28 will also be behind the subscription choice. And on Saturday, May 11, Cork's game against the All-Ireland champions will be on the platform.
Cork fans on social media have reacted to the news that they will have to pay money to see Cork's hurlers in action. Many are not happy with the news today
"Three Cork Munster hurling GAA matches behind a paywall. I wouldn't give @gaago the steam off my p**s," said one user on X. "Potential football game (should Cork beat Limerick) v Kerry also on GAAGO. Most Rebels supporters will not be happy, I'd imagine," said another. "This is absolutely outrageous. The controversy surrounding the GAA/RTE and GAAGO; they're still pushing this nonsense into 2024," added another X user on Monday.
The saga will more than likely rumble on for many months like it did last year. Here's hoping it doesn't
