On Sunday evening, Liverpool and Luton Town played each other at Kenilworth Road. The game ended 1-1 after Luiz Diaz scored Liverpool's late equaliser. Luton took an unexpected lead through former Manchester United youngster Tahith Chong.
One of the main talking points from the game, apart from Darwin Nunez' horror show in front of goal, was the display of Ireland's Chiedozie Ogbene. Ogbene was excellent in the tie and received lavish praise from fans around the world. His work rate and ability with and without the ball impressed many on Sunday.
Ogbene completed four out of five dribbles and gave Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold a torrid time. Fans took to social media to praise the Irish talent for his game.
"I genuinely didn’t rate Ogbene when he was playing with Limerick, and here he is giving Liverpool headaches whenever he gets a run at them! His development has been incredible to see," explained one person on X.
SO CLOSE 😰

"It’s actually mad watching Ogbene burn Trent Alexander Arnold and getting a draw against Liverpool when I used to watch him play in Garryowen. What the heck," said another user on the platform. "At Luton Town v Liverpool, a great first half from the home side. Chiedozie Ogbene outstanding. Wonderful to see a winger running with the ball and taking on defenders," confirmed another.
Another comment that caught people's attention was a remark from Sky Sports News reporter Jamie Weir. He said, "In almost 18 years of doing this job, only once has a footballer texted me the day after an interview to thank me for it. It was Chiedozie Ogbene. A more humble, likeable, well-raised young man you will struggle to find. And he’s been the best player on the pitch so far."
Ogbene and Luton's next game will be against Manchester United next Saturday at 3pm.
