FAI to speak about Vera Pauw's 'undermine' claims this week

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) is set to hold a press conference on Thursday to address claims made by former Republic of Ireland Women's team manager. She claimed she was 'undermined' during her time with the team.

Pauw led Ireland to their first FIFA Women's World Cup this year, but the FAI decided not to extend her contract for the next set of fixtures last month.

The decision was made after the FAI received a full report on the team's World Cup qualification campaign and the tournament itself.

Pauw, days later, responded to the report and gave an exclusive sit-down interview with RTÉ. The former Ireland manager made claims that the report process was highly flawed, and higher-ups 'undermined' her in the role. The Ireland boss was also offered two offers from other suitors but turned down the roles to stay with Ireland. Pauw claimed that the FAI reneged on their promises to offer her a new contract.

"I've had two offers in the process that I stopped because I was waiting for the contract," she said. "The FAI did not have social behavior to at least give a month's notice to tell me, because that is normal HR activity, isn't it? To give your employer the time to find something.

"Now all the positions are occupied, and I have said no to two offers - one was better than the other, but I've said no because I was with Ireland and I would keep going."

Pauw has had plenty to say, but the FAI has remained silent on their decision to remove Pauw from her post. However, that silence is set to end this Thursday.

Both FAI Chief Executive Jonathan Hill and Director of Football Marc Canham are set to address members of the media this Thursday in a media briefing. There had been rumors that the press conference would be about Stephen Kenny's future, but that is not the case according to RTÉ Sport.

"Reports of a scheduled press conference from the FAI led to speculation that it would address Stephen Kenny and the men’s team, however, RTÉ understands that this is not the case and Pauw’s exit and subsequent statements will be the focus," states the outlet.
