Eddie Hearn has said that 'Ireland has to be next for Katie Taylor' after her win over Karen Elizabeth Carabajal last weekend

BOXING PROMOTER Eddie Hearn has again admitted that Croke has to be the next fight location for Ireland's Katie Taylor after her win over Karen Elizabeth Carabajal at Wembley Arena on Saturday evening.

The Bray native who was huge favourite against the Argentine defended her belt with ease. Taylor won with a landslide win on all three of the judges’ scorecards.

Her record in professional boxing now stands at 23-0 and it now seems that a push to finally get Taylor a fight in Croke Park will go into overdrive.

Hearn has harped on about getting Taylor a home fight in her native land for a while now and after her win on Sunday he increased the noise on getting a fight at home ratified once and for all.

“Six years ago, we were here, and people laughed at us," said Hearn.

"Katie didn’t think we’d get the opportunity.

“It’s okay to jump on now, women’s boxing is great now and everyone wants to do it, but for almost thirty years Katie Taylor has been threading paths for others.

“She’s an icon of the sport of boxing.

“It’s time to return to Ireland now, whoever it is, wherever it is, Ireland has to be next for Katie Taylor.

“She deserves it more than anyone, she’s boxed all over the world, the Irish fans are incredible, and they travel everywhere.

“It’s time to give Ireland a sporting event they will never forget, and that’s the return of their hero Katie Taylor."

Taylor is obviously also keen for a homecoming fight.

“Absolutely we want to fight at Croke Park,” said Taylor.

"80000 people, that will be the biggest event in women’s boxing history.”

Amanda Serrano may be Taylor's next foe. The Irish woman beat the Puerto Rican in New York in April in the first women's boxing fight to be headlined by two females at the iconic venue.

The 34-year-old congratulated her rival on Twitter after her win on Saturday: "Congratulations @KatieTaylor 2023 We Dance AGAIN!"

Taylor has also indicated she would like the fight.

Let's hope she gets her wish.
