Damien Duff to donate Shamrock Rovers wages to charity?

FORMER Republic of Ireland international Damien Duff looks set to sign for hometown club Shamrock Rovers and will reportedly donate his wages to charity.

Known for being one of soccer’s good guys, 36-year-old Duff’s long and illustrious career is winding down, with an official announcement on his move to Rovers seemingly imminent.

And, according to reliable Twitter source Copa90, the Dubliner will ask his prospective new employers to pass on his wage – thought to be in the region of €2,500 per week – to charity.

Precisely which charity remains unclear at this stage, but Duff is an ambassador for Heart Children Ireland as his son has a congenital heart defect.

Duff, who scored eight times in exactly 100 appearances for Ireland, spent last season in Australia playing for Melbourne City.

His career honours include two Premier League titles with Chelsea, two Football League Cups with Fulham and Chelsea respectively, while he was also named on the UEFA Team of the Year for 2002.

He represented Ireland at the 2002 World Cup and the 2012 European Championships.
