Croke Park's stadium director has said that Katie Taylor's homecoming fight could happen in early summer 2023

THE STADIUM DIRECTOR OF Croke Park has confirmed that Katie Taylor's long awaited fight in Ireland could happen in the early parts of summer 2023.

Taylor, who has been undefeated since turning professional after her Olympics win has never fought in Ireland despite her success.

The chance to fight at home has also become harder due to security concerns around hosting large scale events in in the country.

After beating Amanda Serrano in April in 2022, all the talk was aimed at getting a fight in Ireland's national stadium Croke Park, but that has not come to fruiton as of yet.

The likes of Eddie Hearn, Taylor herself and other boxing figures have all pushed the idea of fighting in Dublin next year.

The latest person to add his voice to the push is Croke Park's Stadium Director Peter McKenna

McKenna has said the wheels are in motion, and that all parties are working on a solution.

Speaking on a RTÉ programme All Roads to Croker, McKenna said:

"We're looking at dates earli[er in the year. We're quite a way along the road in the talking with Brian Peters [Taylor's manager] and Matchroom [her promoter]"

"It could be early summer - that's the time. This is the type of event... that requires a number of moving parts. What we do is we say that we have these dates available, and this is how it would work from our perspective. That job has been done. And now we need to make sure Matchroom, and Brian Peters can make all the other things come together."

He also added: "The Minister for Sport has been supportive but he's not, nor should he, write a blank cheque. He'll want to see value in this. Any messaging I would have said to Matchroom, or Brian Peters would be to put a compelling case together and I think you are pushing an open door."
