Croke Park date on Tyson Fury’s to-do list

TYSON Fury has revealed his dream to one day defend his newly-acquired world heavyweight belts at Croke Park.

Having brought Wladimir Klitschko’s nine-and-a-half-year reign as champion to an end on Saturday night, Fury realised his childhood dream in Desseldorf, Germany.

But at just 27, the Manchester-born heavyweight from the Irish Travelling community still has many achievements left in the bank, and a date at Croke Park figures in his future plans.

“I’ve always said that I’d like to fight at Croke Park so maybe that can be a reality one day,” he said on Today with Sean O’Rourke on RTÉ Radio 1.

“I always said that there’s a couple of venues in the world that I wanted to box in. One of them is Madison Square Garden — I’ve done that one; one of them is Old Trafford, Manchester United — I’ve not done that one; and the other is Croke Park.”

Croke Park has not staged a boxing event since legendary heavyweight Muhammad Ali beat Al ‘Blue’ Lewis in 1972.

Meanwhile, a clause in the fight contract entitles Klitschko to a re-match with Fury, which would take place next year if the Ukrainian decides to utilise his right.

Fury believes a rematch is likely, but has no idea where it may take place as yet, although Wembley Stadium is a strong contender.

"I don’t know if (Klitschko) is going to take the rematch or not," he said. "There is a contract to say that he’s entitled to a rematch so the rematch clause has got to be fulfilled. I don’t know where it’s going to be."
