Cristiano Ronaldo secures sensational return to Man United

MANCHESTER UNITED have confirmed that they have signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus in a stunning £20 million deal today.

Ronaldo was pictured touching down in Lisbon this afternoon to undergo a medical to seal a sensational return to the club he left in 2009.

The 36-year-old signalled his intention to leave Juventus earlier this week, and looked to set to join Manchester City, before United swooped in to secure his signature.

It's understood the fee agreed is £19.4 million, and a two-year contract is on the table worth an estimated £480,000 a week.

Manchester United confirmed the deal with an official statement earlier this afternoon.

"Manchester United is delighted to confirm that the club has reached agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, subject to agreement of personal terms, visa and medical," the statement read.

"Cristiano, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, has so far won over 30 major trophies during his career, including five UEFA Champions League titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, seven league titles in England, Spain and Italy, and the European Championship for his native Portugal.

"Everyone at the club looks forward to welcoming Cristiano back to Manchester."

Reports indicate that Ronaldo spoke with former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson on Friday before securing his return to the club.

Ronaldo signed for United back in 2003 from Sporting Lisbon when he was a teenager and went on to score 118 goals in 292 games for the club.

In 2009 he secured a world-record transfer to Real Madrid, where he would establish a titanic rivalry with Barcelona's Lionel Messi - now of PSG.

After scoring a mammoth 450 goals in 438 games for the Spanish club, he left for Juventus in 2018 and despite finding the net plenty of times, he failed to deliver one trophy they signed him for - the Champions League.

Back at Old Trafford, Ronaldo will play under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was his teammate for four years between 2003 and 2007.
