SCOTLAND have beaten Ireland by 179 runs, in the Boys in Green’s penultimate World Cup warm-up match in Sydney.
Having lost the toss, it was Craig Young and Max Sorensen who opened the bowling for Ireland in Blacktown ISP.
Matt Machan top scored with 103, captain Preston Mommsen followed with 56 and Richie Berrington with 52, as Scotland made 296-6 in their 50 overs.
William Porterfield and Paul Stirling helped get Ireland off to a strong start, but the wickets fell in quick succession after the latter was out for 37.
Seamer Alasdair Evans (4-17) took four wickets in his first three overs.
Ireland’s Porterfield (23) and Gary Wilson (15) were the only players to reach double figures.
Spinner Majid Haq concluded the innings with 3-9 as Ireland buckled to 117 all out in 27 overs.
Ireland, who lost to Sydney club side Randwick Petersham last Friday, face Bangladesh in their final warm-up game at the same venue on Thursday.
The team then head to New Zealand for their World Cup opening group game.
