CORK City have confirmed that Brian Lenihan has joined Hull City for an undisclosed fee.
The 20-year-old defender signed to the Premier League club on a three-year contract.
Lenihan made 21 League of Ireland appearances for Cork this season, leading to his first call-up for the Ireland U21s in May.
Other clubs reported to have been interested in signing Lenihan over the summer included Premier League teams, Manchester United, Arsenal and Aston Villa.
Chairman of Cork City FC, Pat Lyons, said of his departure: “As a club, we never want to see our best players depart, however we are pleased that we have reached what we believe to be a fair and reasonable agreement with Hull for his transfer, and that Cork City FC stands to benefit further should Brian continue to progress as we all expect him to do.”
Lenihan joined Cork City in July 2012 from Munster Senior League side College Corinthians.
