Conor McGregor raises huge sum for Dublin school for visually impaired children

CONOR MCGREGOR has raised essential funds for a Dublin primary school for visually impaired children.

The Irishman and his friends at the Black Forge Running Club got together to organise a special fundraiser in support of St. Joseph's Primary School in Drumcondra.

St. Joseph's provides specially tailored classes for children with visual impairment and other disabilities in a specialised school environment tailor to the students’ needs.

The school is of special significance to McGregor. Skyler Dunphy, the daughter of fellow Black Forge Running Club member Derek Dunphy, attends St Joseph’s.

Like so many, the Drumcondra facility has been financially impacted by the coronavirus.

Eager to do his bit, McGregor and his friends at the running club organised a sponsored 150km run throughout the month of February.

Together they raised an incredible €20,000, which was presented to the children at the school in the form of a cheque.

The money will help pay for much-needed supplies and ensure the school does not face the kind of underfunding issues many are facing during the pandemic.

Eager to show their appreciation, some of the pupils at the school got together to film a video expressing their gratitude for the kind donation.

McGregor subsequently shared the video with his followers on Instagram.

"Thank you Skyler Dunphy and class for the lovely video," he wrote.

"Myself and some friends committed to run 150km throughout the month of February to raise funds for Skyler’s school, St.Joseph’s Primary. Finishing the distance with a fast paced 21km run. A great day for a great cause!"

McGregor has been an active presence during the Covud-19 pandemic having previously provided essential PPE to frontline healthcare workers.

More recently, he donated €5,000 to a ‘Go Fund Me’ fundraising drive to help purchase vital medical equipment for a woman who requires ongoing care.

Despite this, McGregor did face some criticism this week after posing for a picture in a local shop while not wearing a face mask.
