Conor McGregor has said 'he would love to buy Liverpool'

CONOR MCGREGOR has thrown his hat into the ring to buy Liverpool football club.

According to reports from the Athletic this week the Fenway Sports Group who own Liverpool are considering selling the club to someone else.

A statement from FSG read: "There have been a number of recent changes of ownership and rumours of changes in ownership at EPL clubs and inevitably we are asked regularly about Fenway Sports Group’s ownership in Liverpool."

“FSG has frequently received expressions of interest from third parties seeking to become shareholders in Liverpool. FSG has said before that under the right terms and conditions we would consider new shareholders if it was in the best interests of Liverpool as a club."

“FSG remains fully committed to the success of Liverpool, both on and off the pitch.”

It remains to be seen who does buy Liverpool, but they won't be short of interest from suitable buyers across the world.

Twitter since Monday has been rife with rumours of who could buy the club. There has been alleged middle east interest from the likes of Dubai and Qatar, American consortium links, and rumours of other wealthy billionaires from other parts of the world readying a huge bid for the English giant.

Although there has not been an official offer for the club yet and most investors keep the nature of a rumoured bid under wraps, one person who has not done that is Ireland's Conor McGregor the UFC fighter.

The Crumlin native was asked on Tuesday by a fan to buy the club on Twitter.

The tweet to the Dubliner said: "@TheNotoriousMMA Buy Liverpool FC", to which McGregor emphatically responded with, "I WOULD LOVE IT! I requested my information on this, yes. As soon as I heard, What a turn of events! What a club!, @LFC".

Despite his stance McGregor's net worth would not be enough alone to buy the club outright. The club is rumoured to be valued around £4-5b.

McGregor's net worth according to reports in 2022 is $200 million, so he would have to join a consortium, if any deal was to happen.

This isn't the first time that the UFC superstar has shown his interest for a superclub in England.

McGregor, a self confessed United fan previously admitted in April 2021 that he would love to buy his boyhood club from the Glazer family.

His tweet then read: "Hey guys, I’m thinking about buying Manchester United! What do you think?"

Liverpool and Manchester United both play in the Carabao cup this week.

Liverpool play Derby tonight, while United play Villa on Thursday.
