Conor McGregor faces a costly legal battle from former teammate Artem Lobov over his brand Proper 12 whiskey

IRISH UFC SUPERSTAR CONOR MCGREGOR could be looking at a multi-million-pound lawsuit in relation to his whiskey brand Proper 12.

According to the Mirror UK, The Crumlin native is being sued by teammate Artem Lobov.

Lobov claims he came up with the idea, despite McGregor being the face of the brand since 2018.

McGregor launched the whiskey company in 2018 after a very succesful period of his career.

McGregor, who was one of the first three shareholders in the business sold a stake for a combined $600million (£430m) three years later.

The Mirror report that McGregor's former teammate Lobov now wants five per cent of those proceeds.

The retired Russian launched his court action on Tuesday.

His solicitor, Dermot McNamara, told the Irish Independent: "My client is a retired professional fighter with a master’s degree from DCU in Finance and Capital Markets. We have issued High Court proceedings on his behalf to enforce an agreement with Mr McGregor regarding the Proper No. Twelve whiskey brands.

"As these matters are now before the court, we will not be making any further comment."

The 36-year-old also said on Talksport in August that McGregor offered him offered $1million but he refused to accept payment from the Dubliner.

“The selling point of my book will be the Proper 12 Whiskey story. A few people know, but this was actually my idea. I was the person who came up with the idea to make a whiskey for Conor,” Lobov told talkSPORT.

“Conor offered me $1m but I turned it down, I didn’t accept it. You know, throughout my career whenever I have helped Conor with camps, he offered to pay me for them, but I never accepted money from him,” he said in August.

A spokesperson for McGregor said: “Proper No. Twelve Irish whiskey was created, developed, branded and tirelessly promoted by Conor McGregor."
