Conor McGregor arrested in Miami after allegedly smashing and stealing fan's phone

CONOR MCGREGOR has been arrested in Miami after allegedly smashing and stealing a fan's phone after he tried to take a picture of the UFC star.

Irish fighter McGregor, 30, faces charges of strong-arm robbery and criminal mischief, according to a Miami Beach Police report.

The alleged incident occurred as McGregor was leaving the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel in the south Florida city at around 5.20am local time (9.20am GMT) on Monday.

According to the police report, a 22-year-old man attempted to snap a photo of McGregor, who slapped the phone out of his hand and stomped on it several times before walking away with the phone in his possession.

The report added that the defendant's phone was valued at $1,000 (€890/£760).

The Crumlin native was "located and arrested" at 6pm (10pm GMT) on Monday evening but has since been released from custody on bail after posting his $12,500 bond, police said.

His attorney, Samuel J. Rabin Jr, said in a statement: "Last evening Conor McGregor was involved in a minor altercation involving a cellphone that resulted in a call to law enforcement.

"Mr McGregor appreciates the response of law enforcement and pledges his full co-operation."

McGregor's arraignment will take place at Miami-Dade Circuit Court in three weeks' time, according to US media.

Last year, he was ordered by a court to perform five days of community service and engage in anger management training in return for the dropping of criminal charges over an attack on a bus containing rival UFC fighters.

The incident in April 2018 left at least two fighters injured and unable to fight that night.

It came almost a year after former two-weight UFC champion McGregor lost the most lucrative boxing match in history to multiple world champion Floyd Mayweather – with US star Mayweather reportedly earning $100m from the bout, and the Irishman pocketing around $30m.

McGregor is reportedly in Florida to celebrate his mother Margaret's 60th birthday and to prepare for his UFC comeback after losing his most recent fight to Khabib Nurmagomedov of Russia last October.
