Former Republic of Ireland footballer Clinton Morrison has become the latest footballer to say that Evan Ferguson has everything in his locker to reach the very top of European football.
Ferguson (18) is the hottest Irish footballing prospect at this moment in time. There is a lot of hype and hope around Ferguson's footballing ability, with people comparing him to former Ireland strikers like Robbie Keane.
A number of goals last year for Brighton and Ireland have alerted a number of big clubs already. It was reported last month that Arsenal will try to sign Ferguson for over 100 million euros next year.
Whatever happens in regards to Ferguson's career, it's sure to be fruitful if it's anything like what we have seen already.
Morrison, who represented Ireland 36 times, is also backing the Bettystown native to get better and better.
Evan Ferguson on trials at Liverpool:
"I went to Liverpool a few times. It’s a good club, but you see so many boys at Liverpool just fading away and there’s no chance to get in the first team. I was thinking, ‘Do I just want to play two years of Under-18s and then go to the… pic.twitter.com/arRkFOsHEt— - (@JoshLFC1909) August 23, 2023
“He’s a top player; I think he’s got the potential to go all the way to the top,” said Morrison.
“At 18/19 years of age, he’s only learning. He’s under a brilliant manager in Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton, and he’s a top player. He’s going to be brilliant.”
There had been rumors that Ferguson could be tempted to switch from Ireland to England last year. Talk of Ferguson following in the footsteps of Jack Grealish and Declan Rice to declare for England soon disappeared.
Morrison, who also chose Ireland over England in 2001, added that he was delighted Ferguson chose Ireland over England.
"For him to come and play for Ireland is magnificent, and I think he will score bundles of goals. I think he’ll score loads and loads of goals."
Brighton plays Newcastle at 5:30pm later today.
