Clifford apolgises to Kerry fans and vows to make amends in 2024

Kerry's star player, David Clifford, issued an apology to the Kerry supporters for the team's loss to Dublin in last weekend's All-Ireland final. He also expressed determination to make amends next year.

Clifford, along with the Kerry team, couldn't retain their Sam Maguire crown as they suffered a close defeat of 1-13 to 1-15 against their arch-rivals, Dublin last weekend.

Following the match, the Kerry team swiftly returned to their home turf, where thousands of loyal supporters gathered in Killarney on Monday night to welcome them back.

In an emotional speech during the homecoming event, Kerry's captain, Clifford, apologized for not being able to retain the All-Ireland title. He thanked his teammates, management, and fans for their unwavering support throughout the year.

“We are very sorry that we weren't able to deliver on Sunday, but hopefully, we can learn from this experience and make things right next year. I want to express my gratitude to all the lads for their commitment throughout the year," said the 24-year-old on Monday.

Clifford also extended his appreciation to Jack and the entire management team for their tireless efforts, both this year and over the past two years, which led to the All-Ireland victory last year and a return to the final this year.

"To Jack and all the management team, thanks very much for leaving no stone unturned throughout the course of the last two years. Obviously, bringing back the All-Ireland last year and getting to the All-Ireland (this year).

"Again, we're very sorry that we weren't able to deliver yesterday. Hopefully, we can continue to build on this and go on to right the wrongs next year," he added.

As for the future, it appears that Jack O'Connor will remain in charge for a third season in 2024. The Dromid Pearses man, who returned to the Kerry hotseat ahead of the 2022 campaign, brought Kerry their first Sam Maguire since 2014 last summer. It was his fourth title as boss, having also led them to glory in 2004, 2006, and 2009.
