Celtic captain Scott Brown slams Twitter troll who mocked cancer death of his 21-year-old sister Fiona

CELTIC captain Scott Brown has slammed a troll who mocked the death of his sister on Twitter.

An image was sent to Brown taunting the midfielder over the cancer death of his sister Fiona Brown as well as club legend Tommy Burns.

A caption with the vile picture said: “Who would win? Tommy Burns and Fiona Brown (or) cancer?”

The message was sent to Brown less than two hours after Celtic defeated Rosenborg 1-0 in Norway on Wednesday to reach the play-off round of the Champions League.

Fiona, 21, passed away after losing her battle with skin cancer in May 2008.

Burns, who made over 350 appearances for Celtic before managing the club between 1994 and 1997, also passed away in the same month from the same illness.

Furious Brown took to Instagram to condemn the message, describing it as "disgusting".

The 32-year-old said: “Just been sent this from my twitter account.

“Now football banter is all good between fans, but when it gets personal and bringing family members and friends into it who you love and miss every day is disgusting.”

Rangers and Celtic fans alike have been quick to show their support online for the Scotland international.

Nick Mackison said: “As a Gers fan I'm repulsed/raging by the vile abuse sent to Scott Brown.

"As one who lost his mum to cancer at a young age, I'm heartbroken.”

Meanwhile Chris Bean added: “That tweet to Scott Brown is an absolute disgrace. As is anyone who sings about Lee Rigby.”

The reference to Fusilier Rigby relates a number of Celtic fans caught on camera ahead of Saturday's friendly with Sunderland singing a sick chant about his 2013 murder.

Skipper Brown has made over 300 appearances for the Hoops since moving to Celtic Park from Hibernian in 2007.

It isn’t the first time a troll has mocked the death of his late sister.

Last year, Aberdeen fan Ross Gibson pleaded guilty to making offensive comments on Twitter about Fiona Brown as well as 11-year-old disabled Celtic fan Jay Beatty.
