Camogie coin-toss row latest: Dublin and Clare accept play-off offer

DUBLIN and Clare have accepted an offer from the Camogie Association to stage a play-off to determine who advances to the Senior Championship quarter-final, bringing an end to an unsavoury episode.

The two teams finished level on points and had an identical head-to-head record in Group 2, meaning they could not be separated, with the Camogie Association initially deciding a coin-toss would settle the matter.

In protest of the age-old method of determining a sporting outcome, both counties withdrew from the competition after appeals against the decision went unheard.

However, the governing body has now performed a U-turn, offering to have the sides settle the matter on the field of play, with both boards accepting.

Dublin and Clare will now meet at Semple Stadium on Saturday, August 1, with the winners going on to face Wexford in the quarter-finals just days later on Monday, August 3.

A statement from the governing body read: "The Camogie Association Ard Chomhairle took the decision in order to find a solution to the impasse which arose after both Clare and Dublin Camogie Boards withdrew, after objecting to the pre-determined competition procedures to identify the fourth quarter-finalist in the Liberty Insurance Senior All-Ireland Championship.

"Extra-time will be played in the event of the play-off ending in a draw, while extra-time will also apply in the senior quarter-final on 3 August."
