Camogie hoping to reach out to a wider audience

A campaign to promote the “skill, power and athleticism” of camogie has been launched to coincide with the beginning of the 2014 Liberty Insurance Championship.

The ‘OUR GAME: YOUR GAME’  campaign aims to bring the game to a wider audience.

At the launch, camogie chief executive Joan O’Flynn spoke about the prospect of the GAA, Camogie Association and LGFA integrating.

“There have been informal discussions but in terms of formally sitting around a table, that’s still to happen and we have all sanctioned that to happen,” she said.

“It is just a matter of scheduling that and proceeding with it. The most important thing is that it is right rather than fast. There is a lot of goodwill towards the talks and the leaderships of the associations have supported it and there is strong support at club level.

“They see themselves as part of the Gaelic games family but in any marriage there are a few things to be ironed out...”
