Camogie Association announce 'Minimum Player Charter'

The Camogie Association has announced that, following talks with the Gaelic Players Association (GPA) and counties, it will present a new "Minimum Player Charter." The new charter aims to address enhanced team support and player expenses for future players and teams.

This development follows the announcement in June by inter-county camogie and women's football panels that they would play the closing part of the 2023 season "under protest" due to the absence of a player charter similar to that supporting GAA players.

In July, the players temporarily suspended their protest after receiving assurances from the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) and the Camogie Association regarding the creation of a player charter for 2024, endorsed by the GAA.

The Camogie Association has now officially unveiled plans to introduce a 'Minimum Player Charter,' with financial backing, and aims to present and finalise it in January. This announcement has been confirmed

"The Camogie Association can confirm that, following discussions with the GPA and engagement with its counties, the Association has proposed a Minimum Player Charter. The proposed charter will build on the current government inter-county support scheme and will be financially supported by the Camogie Association,"said the statement

"The significant investment by the Camogie Association will include enhanced contributions to team support and player expenses. The details of the scheme will be finalised and confirmed in January, following further engagement with all parties."

Camogie Association president Hilda Breslin expressed her satisfaction, stating, "I am delighted, following constructive discussion with the GPA and our counties, to confirm that we are in a position to propose significant investment in the Camogie Association Minimum Player Charter. This is a significant milestone and will seek to provide certainty to our players and counties over the coming years, focusing on priority areas."
