Callum Robinson has been ruled out of Ireland's Euro 2024 qualifying game against France next month

CALLUM ROBINSON will not make Ireland's squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifying game against France after the Ireland forward picked up a hamstring injury playing for Cardiff.

Ireland will play France on March 27, but will have to do so without Robinson, who has been in fine form for Cardiff City this season.

The 28-year-old has scored five goals for Cardiff City, but it has now been confirmed that he has a grade 2 hamstring tear.

This means that Robinson will miss at least five games, which includes Ireland's date with France.

"It's the worst case," Cardiff manager Sabri Lamouchi said.

"He will be not available for sure not before the international break. One month. The next five games he will be not with us.

"It's his hamstring. At the end we supposed it was cramp. It was just a hamstring. We did some tests and it's a grade two (tear). The next couple of games he will be not in the squad and not available to play.

"This is not good news. Because he was doing well. Scoring, assisting. He is our top scorer. And it's difficult to score for us this year. So we need to find a solution. We can't complain.

"I'm disappointed for him because he worked so hard against Middlesbrough, Birmingham and Reading, with assisting, scoring, great performances. We will miss him."

Robinson's last goal for Ireland came against Malta in 1-0 friendly win.

This comes days after Aaron Connolly was also ruled out of the France game after he broke his toe in a game.

Hull head coach Liam rosenior speaking to BBC Sport said, "Aaron Connolly has come in, we got him up to match sharpness, then he gets an innocuous ball into his toe and he’s out for a month.

"It’s frustrating. Aaron has been fantastic for us. I want to make sure he gets fit and gets right over the next few weeks and is back for the run in.

“I think you are looking at the international break for him to be back. It still gives him a good number of games to make his mark, which he has done since coming in."

Ireland's game against France starts at 19.45pm on March 27.

The Ireland squad will be announced closer to the fixture date.
