LIMERICK suffered their worst Championship defeat since 1962 as Tipperary tormented the hosts at the Gaelic Grounds.

Eamon O’Shea’s team produced a brilliant display as goals from Seamus Callanan (2), Jason Forde, and Michael Breen sealed a hugely encouraging win for the Premier County.

At Nowlan Park Kilkenny were far too classy for Wexford emerging convincing winners in a match that belonged to Ger Aylward.

The corner forward struck 3-5 for the Cats, while TJ Reid and Richie Hogan bagged the other Kilkenny goals during the rout.

That is what happened the previous evening too in Tullamore as Galway sauntered to an emphatic win over Laois.

Joe Canning contributed 1-15 for the Tribesmen as Johnny Coen and Davy Glennon registered the other Galway majors.

There was a shock at Markievicz Park in Saturday’s Connacht Senior Football Championship clash as Adrian Marren inspired Sligo to victory.

Niall Carew’s underdogs were on top throughout as the excellent Marren hit 1-7 for Sligo, who now face Mayo in the provincial decider.

Monaghan finished strongly to defeat Fermanagh at Kingspan Breffni Park with Conor McManus inevitably occupying a leading role rifling 1-5.

In the qualifiers Antrim caused a surprise when staging a dramatic comeback to defeat Laois at O’Moore Park.

Laois were ahead by eight points in the second half, but Antrim, prompted by the effective Ryan Murray, advanced to round 2a.

Nigel Dunne’s eight point haul enabled Offaly to post a convincing victory over Waterford, while Longford’s Liam Connerton starred as the midlanders beat Carlow at Pearse Park.
