Pascal Gross:'Evan Ferguson's character will help him deal with all the hype'

BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION midfielder Pascal Gross believes that Ireland's Evan Ferguson can battle away the constant hype he has been receiving and continue to improve.

Ferguson has scored 8 goals for Brighton this season in his debut Premier League breakout campaign and has attracted a number of admirers in England.

The likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked with a move for the Meath star, but are expected to sign a new deal with Brighton according to reports.

Ferguson also scored on his international debut for The Republic of Ireland against Latvia last month.

Ferguson (18) missed Brighton's FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester United at Wembley on Sunday, but is expected to play a vital role in Brighton's quest for European football.

Despite the constant noise around a move, Gross believes Ferguson's temperament can help him reach new levels going forward.

His character will help him deal with all the hype. He is such a calm boy, maybe even too relaxed sometimes,' he said to Danny Murphy before the Manchester United game.

'He can finish right, left or head, can side-foot hard from either side. Physically he is a man at 18. I've seen him play against strong players and he can handle it.'

Brighton play Nottingham Forest on Wednesday and are likely to be without Ferguson and his strike partner Danny Welbeck for that game.

"I don't know if Evan [Ferguson] can play on Wednesday, maybe not. Danny Welbeck I don't know if it's a big problem or not," De Zerbi said after the defeat to United.

"But we will be ready to fight and to play with the ball and try to command the play in another game."

That game kicks-off at 19.3o.
