Louth's Ger Brennan doesn't believe it is fair for him to be linked to the Dublin job while Dessie Farrell is still in the role.
Dublin unexpectedly crashed out of the senior football championship this year to Galway, and now questions about Dessie Farrell's future have emerged.
Farrell has another year left on his contract, but Brennan has been touted to replace him if they do make a change.
Brennan has done a stellar job with Minnows Louth. Survival in Division 2 was followed by an eight-game unbeaten run, a Leinster final appearance, and a quarter-final berth in 2023/2024.
Although Brennan seems to be the pick to replace Farrell, the Dublin native does not believe it is fair to Farrell, who is still in the role.
"It's probably unfair to me to ask that and unfair to Dessie Farrell, who is a wonderful manager and has another year on his term," he said to LMFM this week.
"And I'm just playing the ball in front of me. As long as I'm enjoying the journey with the lads and the lads are enjoying the journey with me, I'm really having a wonderful experience."
Last year, Brennan took over from Mickey Harte, who stood down from Louth to become Derry's new manager.
Brennan has acknowledged that things are different for Louth now, without Mickey Harte and his staff, but also credited them for allowing players to express themselves.
"It's a different way of doing things, and so I think that probably helped the group themselves to take the shackles off in some ways, although there are other areas where we do need to continue to improve. So we'd have to credit Mickey Harte and Gavin Devlin from that point of view.
"But from my own point of view, the work of the players, the management team, and the county board has been incredible."
