Brady: 'Irish players worst we've had'

Liam Brady has claimed that the current group of Irish players under Stephen Kenny is the worst any Ireland manager has ever had.

Ireland's chances of reaching Euro 2024 were dealt a serious blow after they were beaten 2-1 in Athens on Friday night.

A second-half goal from Giorgos Masouras ensured Ireland ended the night without a single point in the group, having already played two games.

The loss has reignited the debate about Stephen Kenny's position as the manager, both online and offline. One of the harshest critics on the night was Liam Brady, who is considered one of Ireland's greatest ever players. He strongly criticized the Irish players for their performance.

Speaking on RTÉ, Brady said: "This is the worst group of players that any manager has had in my lifetime. You go through Martin O'Neill, Mick McCarthy, Steve Staunton, Jack Charlton, and Brian Kerr. They all had better players than Stephen has at the moment, but somehow you've got to mold them into a team that gets you a result here and there, and we haven't done that."

Jayson Molumby, one of the players who started in the loss, came under fire for his performance. Brady added that he didn't know what Molumby brought to the team.

"Stephen has been placing a lot of confidence in Cullen and Molumby," he added. Now Cullen plays with spirit. I counted one good pass between the two of them. Cullen got Doherty three.

"I don't know what Molumby brings to the Irish team. He was non-existent tonight. Did he make a tackle? I didn't see him make a tackle. I thought the Greeks had loads of space, so it'll be interesting to see what Stephen has to say about his selection."

Ireland's next game will be against Gibraltar on Monday.
