FOOTBALL League side Bradford City have splashed out on a new goalkeeper, spending £1 on Irishman Colin Doyle.
Having been relegated to League Two with Blackpool, a clause in the 31-year-old’s contract was activated by bargain hunters Bradford, a League One side.
The terms in the one-time Republic of Ireland international’s contract stated Blackpool must accept any bid of £1 or over if the Tangerines suffered demotion.
The transaction was completed swiftly this week and Doyle is now a Bradford player on a two-year deal, having spent just one season at financially-stricken Blackpool.
Doyle, a Cork native who played hurling and Gaelic football in his youth, had previously spent 12 seasons at Birmingham before moving to Blackpool and made his only senior Ireland appearance against Ecuador in 2007.
