JOHN Joe Nevin is set to make his competitive return to boxing just months after a brutal attack that left him with broken legs.
The Irish Olympic silver medallist revealed that he is “as good as ever” and is ready for his comeback to the ring, which is scheduled to take place in the US in September.
The fight will be the Westmeath boxer’s first competitive fixture since he underwent surgery in April following a serious attack in Mullingar.
Speaking to the Irish Independent, Nevin insisted that he is still as competitive as he was prior to the incident and that he is “really looking forward" to the upcoming fight.
"I can't wait to get in the ring and show people I'm back, as good as ever. And, I believe I will be world champion still," he said.
Nevin will return to the US, where he had begun his professional career in March, with a convincing win over Puerto Rica’s Alberto Candelaria in Boston on St Patrick’s Day.
