Billy Sheehan no longer Laois Senior Football Manager

After a two-season stint, Billy Sheehan has stepped down as the manager of the Laois footballers following a review meeting with senior Laois GAA officials.

There had been the possibility of extending for a third year pending a review, but that will not be the case," confirmed the intercounty side via their Twitter account.

The statement from Laois GAA started, "Outgoing Laois Senior Football Manager Billy Sheehan has informed the Laois GAA officials following his review meeting that he is stepping down from his position."

The statement also expressed gratitude to Sheehan for his efforts with the panel. "Laois GAA would like to thank Billy and his backroom team for their commitment and work with this panel for the past two years and wish them well in the future," they added.

Furthermore, the statement indicated that they would now seek to appoint a successor to Sheehan for the following season. "Laois GAA will now establish an appointments committee to source a new football manager for the coming season," concluded the statement.

Sheehan's last game was a crushing 8-16 to 2-12 defeat at the hands of Down on the Sunday prior to last.

Before this, Laois narrowly missed out on a promotion back to Division 3, finishing third in the lower tier. In the Leinster SFC, they suffered a daunting 27-point defeat against Dublin, which sent them into the Tailteann Cup.

Laois narrowly avoided elimination in the Tailteann group stages with a late equalizer against London but improved to beat Fermanagh and Limerick, securing a place in the semi-finals.

However, the loss to Down marked Sheehan's final appearance on the sideline.
