Bastian Schweinsteiger pays touching tribute to family of young Irish Berkeley victim

BASTIAN Schweinsteiger has paid a touching tribute at the Aviva Stadium to young Irish victim Niccolai ‘Nick’ Schuster, who died in the Berkeley balcony collapse earlier this year.

The Manchester United player met the family of the avid soccer fan on Wednesday evening in Dublin, ahead of Germany’s Euro qualifying clash with Ireland tonight.

He also presented Nick’s brother Alexei with the jersey of his former club Bayern Munich – also Nick’s favourite team.

Nick’s Facebook page featured a photograph of himself posing alongside the German international, prompting Schweinsteiger to publish a tribute following the tragedy.

In June, in a post containing the same photo, Schweinsteiger posted a tribute to the 21-year-old University College Dublin student.

“The news makes me very sad. I wish… Nick’s family a lot of strength for this difficult time,” he wrote, sharing a picture of himself with Nick,” it said.

He also extended condolences to all involved in the incident.

Five Irish students, Lorcán Miller, Eimear Walsh, Eoghan Culligan, Niccolai Schuster and Olivia Burke, and Irish American student Ashley Donohoe died in the incident on June 16.
