IRISH ATHLETES Thomas Barr and Andrew Coscoran have both bowed out of the World Championships in Oregon at the semi-finals stage of their events.
Barr finished in fifth place in his 400m hurdles while Coscoran finished in 12th place in his 1500m race.
29-year-old Barr had been hampered by injury prior to the Irish Championships in June, and finished the race this morning in 50.08 seconds, slower than his 49.15 seconds in the heats.
That time placed him in 19th position.
"Extremely disappointed with that race, probably my worst race at a champs and in a semifinal I was well able to qualify from," Barr wrote on Twitter.
"Huge opportunity misses. Completely messed up my stride pattern on the top bend, and couldn't regain control.
"Race practise lacking, but onto Munich," he finished, looking ahead to the European Championships in Germany next month.
Coscoran, who secured a season-best performance of 3:36.36 in his third-place finish during the 1500m heats, clocked 3:44.66 in the semi-final .
However, that was only good enough for 12th as he bowed out.
Team Ireland will now return to the track on Day Six for the men’s 800m heats as well as the men’s and women’s 400m semi-finals.
