GAELIC footballers often get lambasted by coaches if they dare to display skills that would be of more use on a soccer field.
That ‘foreign sport’ – as some old school GAA folk refer to it – has no place on a Gaelic football field in the eyes of many.
Unless, of course, you can drill the ball through a sea of bodies and into the net from outside the penalty box.
That’s precisely what Belmullet’s Shane Nallen did when his side were in desperate need of a goal in a Mayo Intermediate Championship game in Ballina on Sunday.
What looked like being a straight-forward punt over the bar soon became the score of the match, but sadly for Nallen, his Belmullet side still lost out to Shrule-Glencorrib in the end.
Nonetheless, he can be proud of his brilliant goal.
