Armagh awarded with 11 PwC Football All-Star nominations

All-Ireland champions Armagh have received 11 PwC Football All-Star nominations for their excellent Gaelic football campaign. The Orchard County won a tight contest against Galway in this year's All-Ireland.

The likes of Rian O’Neill, Conor Turbitt, Oisín Conaty, and Rory Grugan have all been included.

The remaining 34 nominations come from various counties. For example, Galway is the next best-represented county with 8 nominations. Donegal follows with 7, while Kerry, Dublin, Meath, and Louth each have four players. Tyrone, Mayo, and Roscommon have two each, while Cork has 1.

The six counties that missed out on a nomination were Derry, Westmeath, Clare, Cavan, Monaghan, and Meath.

In other awards news, three players have been nominated for the PwC GAA/GPA Footballer of the Year:

They are Armagh’s Barry McCambridge, Galway’s Paul Conroy, and John Maher.

Meanwhile, Oisín Conaty (Armagh), Johnny McGrath (Galway), and Ciarán Moore (Donegal) are up for the PwC GAA/GPA Young Footballer of the Year.

GPA CEO Tom Parsons said this week: “Our games focus first and foremost on the team element, and that’s how it should be. However, every team is only as good as the sum of its parts, and that is why it is so important to recognise individual brilliance.

“The 45 players shortlisted have stood out among their peers as the standout performers in 2024, and for that, I salute them all. From personal experience, I know that it gives a player a sense of pride to become a PwC All-Star nominee, so to our first-time nominees, I want to say congratulations.

“To Barry, Paul, and John, congratulations on being selected as the nominees for the PwC GAA/GPA Footballer of the Year, and to Oisín, Johnny, and Ciarán on being shortlisted for the PwC GAA/GPA Young Footballer of the Year. In a year of outstanding individual performances, yours were consistently brilliant.”

The nominations were selected by Gaelic games journalists from across print, radio, TV, and digital media. The PwC All-Stars banquet will be screened live on RTÉ on 1 November from the RDS.
