Andy McEntee stays as Meath senior football manager Nick Weir will also remain as hurling boss

Meath will retain the mangerial services of Andy McEntee for the 2022 campaign. They will also keep Nick Weir as the hurling manager

A group of club delegates voted to keep McEntee in the hotseat on Tuesday night after the countys executive comitee indicated their preference for change

The vote in the secret ballot did not reach the tw-thirds majority needed to oust McEntee. McEntee won the 2016 All Ireland Club Championship. so it may have had a factor.

"The Meath GAA County Committee has decided to endorse Andy McEntee as the county senior football manager for 2022," read a statement.

"Andy McEntee will now complete his three-year term and we are excited for the new year of Gaelic games to come."

Meath under McEntee in 20121 failed to win promotion back to Division 1 with a play-off defeat to Kildare, before pushing Dublin close in the Leinster semi-final, losing 2-16 to 1-13.

County chairman John Kavanagh expressed his hope that Meath will move forward as a “united county” following the episode.

“It’s done and dusted now, it’s unfortunate the way it came about but that’s democracy,” said Kavanagh. “It was within the management committee’s remit to propose whether Andy McEntee went forward for another year or not and they decided maybe he shouldn’t. After that, it was up to the clubs to decide and I’m delighted that all 59 clubs were represented and had their say. I think it was a very good debate, the clubs had their say and they spoke.”

Nick Weir however will remain as manager of the Royals' hurlers. There has been a notable addition to Weir's backroom team, with Seoirse Bulfin, who worked alongside Davy Fitzgerald in both Clare and Wexford, joining as a coach.
