Amanda Serrano wants 'fair' rule change if Taylor v Serrano 3 happens

Amanda Serrano has admitted she is open to another fight with Katie Taylor but insists it should follow the same format as her male counterparts, with 12 three-minute rounds. Currently, women’s boxing matches are typically limited to ten rounds, each lasting two minutes.

Last weekend, the Bray native and the Puerto Rican faced off for the second time, with Taylor securing victory via unanimous decision (95-94) at the AT&T Stadium in Texas.

Serrano dominated the initial rounds, stunning Taylor with powerful left hands. However, a clash of heads in the sixth round worsened a cut on Serrano's eye. Taylor was penalised for the headbutt and had a point deducted but managed to hold on for the win, retaining the undisputed super lightweight title.

The aftermath of the fight has sparked controversy, with Serrano and her camp calling Taylor “dirty” for the headbutt. Taylor has denied these accusations.

The trilogy fight now seems to be on the cards.

Serrano appeared on CBS Mornings on Friday and expressed her pride in putting on a show for millions worldwide. She maintained that she was the real winner of the fight.

“Listen, I didn’t know—there was a lot of headbutting going on and a lot of holding going on,” she told CBS Mornings when asked if she thought the result was fair. “But listen, I’m just happy that we were able to perform on this platform, and millions of people saw what they saw. I believe I won the fight, which means we have to go for the third fight.”

There is speculation that Taylor may retire at 38, but the Bray native has hinted that a third fight is possible. Serrano has echoed Taylor's sentiments but insists the next bout must follow the same rules and duration as men’s fights.

“I’m 100% interested (in a third fight). She said she is. The only way I feel like it will be fair is if we go under the men’s rules, which are three minutes and 12 rounds, and she agreed to it. So let’s see if she’ll take the fight,” Serrano stated.
