Speaking ahead of this weekend's games, Susie Robertson of O’Neills said: “We are delighted to be associated with the event as an official sponsor. With over 100 teams entered and the weather forecast looking good, this could prove to be the sporting, and social, highlight of the year.”
She added: “From our own point of view, it’s great to get the meet the people from up and down the island, who we deal with day in, day out. To be able to put a face to a name and thank people in person for their loyal custom is wonderful and makes all the hard work that goes into organising the weekend well worth it.”
Ronan Early of The Irish Post said: “To get over 100 teams in just the second year of the competition is phenomenal, and a real measure of the work being done in counties, in clubs and in schools right across Britain to promote and develop the games. We are delighted to be able to publicise all this great work, and give the volunteers who work so hard a platform on which promote themselves.”
The newest sponsor to join the ABC bandwagon is ESB, headed in the UK by Donegal woman Clare Duffy.
She said: “2013 is proving to be a really great year for the GAA in Britain, with the hurlers of Warwickshire and London already having secured silverware. Put with that the magnificent run of the London footballers, and All-Ireland success for Parnells, and it’s clear to see that things are on the up.”
