Inish Turk Beg
Clew Bay
Co. Mayo
Island retreat with luxury property developments
€2.85million

AN entire island lying off the west coast of Ireland and home to one of the most sumptuous multi-million euro luxury property developments is up for sale.

The private island of Inish Turk Beg in Clew Bay in Co. Mayo is being sold jointly by Knight Frank and Sherry FitzGerald, in association with Christie’s International Real Estate. Inish Turk Beg is on the market with an asking price of €2.85million.

Widely known as a spectacularly scenic island and more recently as a luxury travel destination with its awardwinning hospitality accommodation, indoor leisure and outdoor adventure activities, Inish Turk Beg covers 65 acres. It has as many as five island houses and a mainland marina as well as a magnificent main residence.

The many properties and amenities additional to the principal residence, complete with its large indoor swimming pool and tennis court, include a number of contemporary design cottages, reception and craft centres located across the island, a pier, a separate floating jetty, a football/basketball complex, facilities for a home cinema, a gym and games complex and an outdoor sound system.

Translated from the Irish as ‘Small Island of the Wild Boar’, Inish Turk Beg is the highest and one of the largest islands in Clew Bay. Situated in a sheltered position on the side of the bay the island has excellent access.

Robert Ganly, head of residential and country at Knight Frank Ireland, said: “It is one of the best islands in the whole of Ireland and the British isles with its exquisite scenery, natural harbours, hills and woodland and unlike many islands, it can be accessed almost all year round, whatever the weather conditions. Its development has been quite extraordinary with no expense spared.”

The island’s accommodation has been developed to the most spectacular standards, with the planning and design undertaken by the European Young Architect of the Year Andrew Wright. The main residence, Island House, is a stunningly designed contemporary two-storey house with some 12,000sq.ft internally. It has six bedrooms, a number of spacious reception rooms and a music hall. The adjacent leisure complex comprises a gym area games room, large indoor heated swimming pool and jacuzzi. It is linked to the main house by an external terrace entertainment space.

There are four other residential properties on the island, three of which have been used as guest accommodation together with the main house. These include the two Red Dot design award-winning properties, the three-bedroom Pavilion and Reek Cottage — the c.700sq.ft reception centre, together with Yard Cottage, which comprises c.600sq.ft and has two bedrooms, reception room and kitchen. There is also the Crafts House, which can deal with overflow area and one double en suite attic bedroom.

The manager’s house was the original cottage of the island. This is a spacious two-storey cottage with three bedrooms and three reception rooms, overlooking the original pier and adjacent to the state-of-the-art boat house.

Inish Turk Beg Island is about 10km from the well-known Co. Mayo tourist towns and beauty spots of Westport and Newport. It’s approximately 67km from the west of Ireland’s Knock Airport.
