The area itself is famed not only for its natural beauty where two rivers meet, but it is renowned as the place where Thomas Moore wrote his poem The Meeting of the Waters. For foodies, traditional music and all-day food is available nearby at The Meetings Pub - a couple of minutes’ walk away. And Ireland's oldest hotel The Woodenbridge Hotel is just ten minutes’ away, with a cosy old-fashioned feel it’s the perfect spot for Sunday lunch.
The area has an abundance of activities and places to visit nearby. From trout fishing to kayacking and GAA to rugby clubs, there’s plenty on offer.
There are also many beautiful river walks, especially the nearby Avondale House and Forest Park - the former home of Charles Stewart Parnell. The Woodenbridge Golf Club is nearby too, as is Brittas Bay with its famous sandy beach. A world away from the hustle and bustle, Aherlow is only 45 minutes from Dun Laoghaire and one hour by train to Dublin. A bus to Dublin Airport passes by the house twice per day, while a school bus also passes by the gate.
