‘We’ll have to move to Ireland’ – Tearful woman tells TV phone-in ‘Brexit will ruin us’

A WOMAN broke down on live TV after calling into the Jeremy Vine show on Channel 5 to describe the impact she expects Brexit to have on her family and Britain as a whole.

The caller, who asked not to be named, phoned into the show after a segment in which co-host Lowri Turner branded those seeking passports for countries outside the UK ‘unpatriotic’

Evidently angered by the suggestion the woman, who claimed to have worked in banking for over a decade, told the show she was in the process of applying for an Irish passport as her job was moving to Dublin.

“We’re being ruined by Brexit,” she said, citing the fact her husband’s building company had already lost 50% of its builders.

She also hit out at Turner’s claims about being “unpatriotic” labelling it as another example of how “people in the media bubble have no idea the effect that this is having on us”.

“I’m sorry, this really upsets me, but we’re going to struggle to put food on our table because a few of you don’t like foreigners,” she said.

“And I am patriotic because I love my country and I don’t know why we’re ruining it, I don’t know why we want economic hardship, I don’t know why I can’t give the best to my children and I feel we’ll have to move to Ireland to give my children the life I want them to have.”

Turner defended her point though, noting that there could be countless other reasons as to why banks and businesses might be struggling.

“Nobody wants businesses to go down, but we live in a free market economy, anything could happen,” she said. “We could have another recession.”

The emotional caller wasn’t convinced though, going on to explain her belief that the current environment in the UK, as well as economic concerns, had prompted many to leave the country.

“People from our building company have left, not because there isn’t loads of money to be made, there is, but because they don’t like the environment,” she said.

“The Romanians don’t want to be here because they’d rather be in Portugal or Spain where there probably isn’t as much work, but the people are nicer, they think.”

Some on Twitter were less than sympathetic to the claims though.

"Boo hoo husband can employ Romanians on peanuts anymore and cream shit loads of profit, unlucky Kentucky best employ some British workers on decent wages from now on," one wrote.

"Best get some of our kids to up their game then. I'm an electrician, my apprentice started his first year with 22 other lads, by the end there were 7 left. 16 out of 23 couldn't be arsed to even turn up and get through the first year, never mind the apprenticeship," another added.
