'Irish tourists' filmed threatening locals after dumping rubbish on New Zealand beach

FOOTAGE HAS surfaced online showing a group of tourists verbally abusing locals after being asked to clean up the rubbish during a holiday in New Zealand.

According to a social media post from Auckland resident Krista Curnow, a group claiming to be Irish were involved in a heated confrontation with locals at Takapuna beach.

The 12-strong group had been “drinking Coronas and Bundaberg” Curnow told the New Zealand Herald, and had left empty boxes of beer, plastic bags and other litter near the beach.

She claims that when they were confronted over the fact they had attempted to leave without tidying up after themselves, the family became “violent”.

"We approached the family to ask them if they can please not leave without picking up their rubbish, their response was basically if we have a problem then we can pick it up and that
that’s what the council is for," Curnow said.

"I approached the family to ask again if they could not disrespect our country while visiting and pick up their rubbish. They turned violent and even grandma and the child got involved saying they wanted to punch my head in."

Later, as the group began to leave, Curnow attempted to take photos of their cars but was stopped by one individual, who "tried to run me down in his car and then attempt to steal my phone".

She was able to record further footage of one of the young boys, who was part of the group, seemingly threatening her over her comments.

"I’ll knock your brains out. Smart talk my uncle again, swear to god. Cheek of you," he says.

Curnow has hit out at the family for “disrespecting” New Zealand those was keen to stress the encounter was “no reflection” on Irish people as a whole.

Police are now reportedly investigating the incident to try and determine the identities of those involved.
